    Legal Matter:
    Gaspard brought a case before Champlain regarding some personal effects that were stolen by Thomas Giroust during their voyage to New France. Gaspard stated that he had asked Giroust to take him and his baggage from Mortagne to Dieppe in 1635. These items were put aboard the ship and sent to Quebec. The baggage included "two large salt cellars, two large flower vases, two large plates, six porridge bowls, all in a tin case, eight to ten plates, three small bowls, two of pewter and one of tin, a ceramic bottle containing rosewater, two bushels of cooked pears and one bushel of cooked prunes". Giroust was ordered by Champlain to return them to Gaspard. Giroust pretended to return them but he did not during the time since the voyage. Giroust was ordered to sell his property and return to France.

    Gaspard married Nicole Lemaire about 1619 in Mamers, Sarthe, France. Nicole (daughter of Nicolas Lemaire and Marie Gastrie) was christened on 10 Mar 1594/95 in Notre Dame, Mamers, France; died after 19 Jun 1652. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
