    He left aboard the ?i?Saint-Nicolas?/i? with Marguerite Bourgeoys and the ?i?Grande Recrue?/i?. The ship had left port at Saint-Nazaire on 20 June 1653. Shortly after leaving port, they turned the ship around because they were taking on water from every seam. A new ship was leased, the Saint-Marguerite, and set sail a second time on 20 July 1653.
