    Jacques used a mark to sign documents. The mark was a spindle for winding thread or a pair of butterfly wings.

    "On 8 February 1642 he remitted to Noel Collet a piece of land in the town of la Vantrouze, adjoining Noel Juchereau, which he had acquired from the late Simone Ernou, widow of Joachim Collet, brother of the said Noel, on 14 March 1641, for the sum of 29 livres which Gilles Lefort owed to the said Collet in a contract of acquistions". The document was signed by notary Me Choiseau at Tourouvre in France.

    A contract was drawn up by notary Paul Vachon stating that Jacques owed 45 silver livres to Jean Picart, a merchant from Sainte-Anne du Petit-Cap. The document said that Jacques was "living in the parish of our lady of chasteau Richer". Jacques stated that he could not write or sign his name.

    Death:
    He died at the home of his daughter Francoise at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre.

    Burial:
    The priest L. Soumande recorded the act:
    "The year gbj, eighty, the sixteenth of February; died in the Communion of Our Holy Mother Chruch Jacques le houx age one hundred and seven years, after having received the Holy Sacraments of Penitence, communion and Extreme unction; And was the following day buried in the Cemetery of this parish, in the presence of Robert Paray, son-in-law of the deceased, claude poulain and Guillaume Morel friends, who with the exception of the said Paray, signed with me./thus signed Claude poullain, guillaume Morel, and L Soumande, priest.
