Nicolas purchased a piece of property from Philippe Gauthier, Sieur de Comporte. It was located near the quay of Quebec, "on a cul de sac near the fountain of Champlain, measuring twenty eight feet in fromtage on the Saint Lawrence River about hide tide, to a depth as far as the end of the coast of cap aux diamants". They agreed to a selling price of 200 livres and that a house would be built on the property within two years. Nicolas would pay 10 livres per year.

    Residence:
He was from the parish of Saint-Jean, city and diocese of Noyon, Picardy, France. (Today it is located in the arrondisement of Compiegne, department of the Oise)

    Legal Matter:
Nicolas rented a house on rue Notre-Dame, in Lower Town, Quebec for three years. His landlord and neighbor was Sieur Noel Pinguet, bourgeois. The house had a "cellar, kitchen, cabinet and attic" and rented for 100 livres per year.

    Additional information:
Nicolas had two apprentices in his service. The first, as a locksmith apprentice in 1679, was Jacques Guay, son of Jean and Jeanne Mignon. The second, as a gunsmith apprentice in 1680, was Nicolas Pre.

    Legal Matter:
Nicolas hired two masons, Louis and Sylvain Duplais, to complete the masonry "of his house on the cul de sac which had already begun for the price and amount of 4 livres and 5 sols for each measure of the wall". They were required to finish the job by 9 August 1680.

    Legal Matter:
To complete the house, Nicolas hired Pierre Gaiten dit Tourangeau, roofer and chimneysweep, to attach the three dormers and roof. Nicolas would supply the boards. The cost was 5 livres, 5 sols per roof measure "made and finished".

Marie Madeleine inherited a portion of the property of her father, Georges Pelletier, after the death of her mother, Catherine Vanier. They sold this share to Marie Madeleine's brother-in-law, Guillaume Morel.
