Augustus Valliere's Career Was An-Interesting One
After a continued residence in Detroit of sixty-five years, Augustus Valliere, an ex-hotelkeeper and teamster, died at the residence of his son, John B. Valliere, 441 Clinton street, early yesterday morning. Mr. Valliere was born in Montreal 83 years ago, and came to Detroit early in 1837, where he started to work as a teamster. He drove the cart that hauled the tank for the first waterworks of the city and later bought the first dray that was every used here.
At the close of the war he gave up drayint to enter the hotel business, opening a hostelry on Atwater street, across from the Brush street depot. He named it the Montreal hotel, and conducted it for seventeen years, when he retired from active business life. He was always a great lover of horses. Shortly after coming to Detroit he married, but his wife died two years ago. Four children, two sons and two daughters, Augustus, Jr., John B., and Mrs. Edmund Peltier and Mrs. Louis Peltier, of Mt. Clemens, survive him. The funeral will be held from the residence of John B. Vallier, 441 Clinton street, and from St. Joachim's church, corner of Fort and Dubois streets, Monday morning.
