12158 Gilles exchanged his 30 arpents of land for another owned by Jean Auger dit Baron. Jean promised to pay 375 livers to make up the difference. Six days later Auger resold the property for 600 livres to Jean Gasteau who, on the same day, sold it to Jacques Milot for 700 livres. 12160 Gilles leased land from Pierre Bessonnette which the latter owned on the Saint-Louis hill. **But there seems to be a contradiction to this statement. In Vol. 13, page 61, it states that Pierre Bissonnet rented the land from Gilles. "Rented from the boilermaker Gilles Lauzon, the site was situated quite near the mill. The agreement was vaild for three years. Lauzon promised to build a lodging there for the tenant and his family, and he said that if they can not "reside there because of war in the land" (the Iroquois), then he, the landlord, will give them shelter in his own house." Lauzon, Gilles (I10576)

12161 Gilles Moulineux "sold to Francois Thibault, for 45 livres, one arpent of low land to be taken on the northeastern part of his concession, adjoining Jean Le Picart, to begin from the boundary of the said concession on the edge of the said Grande Riviere as far as the second hill and above the said coast or hill by two and a half arpents which make the width of the rest of the concession of Moulineux grant or, as far as the depth of fifty arpents". Thibault, Francois (I4530)

12168 Gilles signed a contract before notary Teuleron. He was to work for Jacques Le Neuf, Sieur de la Poterie. The contract states that he must work for "seven years and gather and raise fruits which will begin at the time of the arrival of Trotier in the said country." He was obligated to work, to sow, to hoe, to cut, to thresh the wheat, and clean, "all wisely". On his part, the employer would provide four cows and two bulls as well as an experience hired hand to help him. The two men mush make planks directly from the pines cut on the land. In addition, Gilles would clear an arpent-and-a-half of woods and deliver to his employer twelve chickens, six capon, and twenty pounds of butter from each of the four cows. "It was necessary to advance him 46 livres at the time of his departure to clothe himself." "Although the contract makes no reference to the family of the new farmer, Father Godbout (Nos Ancetres XVIIe Siecle) is sure that they embarked with him. They all must have been in La Rochelle by 4 July, because the last arrangements for the departure of the small fleet destined for Canada, comprised of the ships Cardinal, Notre-Dame, and Navire Neuf, were made at the Admiralty of La Rochelle four days earlier, on 18 July 1646." Pierre Legardeur de Repentigny himself commanded the Cardinal, a "spacious" ship of 300 tons, in which the Trottier family must have made the crossing. The three vessels arrived almost simultaneously at Quebec. On 27 September, four days after debarking, the Trottiers brought Jean-Baptiste to the baptismal font at Quebec: He was born during the crossing. Trottier, Jules (I2618)

12169 Gilles signed a rental agreement with Charles d'Ailleboust. Lauzon, Gilles (I10576)

12195 GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY.
____
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Valliere Were Married Fifty Years Ago.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Valliere, of 410 Woodbridge street east, was celebrated yesterday at St. Joachim's church, Rev. Fr. Meinard administering the blessing of the church and celebrating high mass in honor of the happy event. The aged couple were married fifty years ago in St. Anne's church, and a remarkable and happy feature of the celebration yesterday was the presence at the altar of Louis Hubert, who had been best man on that occasion, together with the bridesmaid as well. Thirteen children have blessed the union, some of whom have died. The family and friends presented the couple with a gold clock as a memento of the happy occassion, and a wedding dinner was served at the family home. The living children of the couple who were present yesterday are George Valliere, of Lake Linden, Mich.; Mrs. Joseph Asseline, Mrs. Frank Asseline, and Henry Valliere, of Detroit.
