    Engagement Contract (indentured servant):
    Before notary, Master Choiseau, Pierre, along with Nicolas Hublin and Jacques Nourry, signed a contract for 5 years with Jean Juchereau. Juchereau promised to give Pierre 45 livres tournois per year salay and a single pair of shoes. Pierre stated he was from Feings, a town bordering Mortange-au Perche.

    Employment:
    Pierre and Jean Trudel appeared before notary Guilliaume Audouart in Quebec. They agreed to work for three years as farmers for Nicolas Juchereau, Sieur Saint-Denis. The farm had a stable, barn and house, 2 oxen, 4 cows, 3 sheep, and farming implements. They were given for their use some turnips, half of the harvest of cabbages in the garden, 50 minots of wheat and 25 of peas. They would receive 60 livres for each new arpent of land put into cultivation. On 12 Sept. , Pierre and Jean agreed to give 40 minots of wheat, 25 of peas and 20 of corn annually. Pierre signed and Jean did not. The contract began on 1 Oct. 1655 and would expire on 1 Oct. 1658.

    Pierre obtained land from Jean Baptiste LeGardner, Sieur de Repentigny, 2 and 2/3 arpents of frontal land in the territorial domain of the fief of Charlesville, near neighbors Jean Trudel and Jacques Vauclin. This farm in located today in the municipality of Boischatel, detached from L'Ange-Gardien in 1925, about 31 arpents east of the Montmorency Falls.

    Pierre was elected one of the first church wardens of L'Ange-Gardien along with Raymond Paget and Jacques Goulet.

    Jeanne drew up the inventory of Pierre's assests after his death. She had 400 livres in liquid assets and spent half of it to have prayers said for him. On 23 Oct 1717, her children left her possession of the land at L'Ange-Gardien for as long as she lived. They also agreed to provide an annual pension of 14 minots of wheat, 4 of peas, 2 of oats, 50 bales of straw, 50 of hay and 16 pounds of oakum (to fill cracks?). After her death they would have 24 low masses celebrated for her.

    Pierre was at the home of Zachary Cloutier when he agreed to the terms of his marriage contract with Jeanne. Jeanne lived under the protection of ther grandfather Cloutier since the remarriage of her father to Marie Chapelier on 29 Nov. 1649. Jeanne was 13 years old when she agreed to the contract. The dowry was 300 livres; preciput: 50 livres. Gifts from her father were 1 cow and some clothes according the her condition.

    An inventory was made of his estate and he had goods worth 732 livres. Debts against the estate were 8 livres for the funeral, 15 to the church, 9 livres for the cost of the inventory, 65 livres of dower and 266 livres for half of the selling price of the house which went to Marie. With only 152 livres remaining to divide among five inheritors, suits and appeals were brought before the courts.

    Notary Piraude drew up a contract between Robert and the nursing order of the Dames Hospitalieres for the making of 7,000 bricks. He was to deliver them about 15 June, "on the shore of the river near Beauport just opposite his workyard" for the cost of "two poinsons of wheat" (about 39 ?i?Imperial ?/i?gallons).

    Land:
    The may of 1641, drawn up by surveyor Jean Bourdon, tells us that Robert's land was located to the west of Riviere-aux-Chiens, between the properties of Jacques Boissel and Claude Estienne.

    Legal Matter:
    Robert, along with some other people from Beauport, was accused of plotting to kill James Bourguignon. James had sued them in the court at Quebec. They were not prosecuted.

    Employment:
    Robert promised to "lease to Grouvel 200 bricks". During this time he also made planks, dry-docked the launch of Grouvel, and sowed the fields of his friends.

    Land:
    Robert received a land grant from Olivier Le Tardif that consisted of 6 arpents of frontage by 126 in depth. Notary Morel signed the document.

    Guardian:
    The guardianship of the two daughters of Robert and Anne Cloutier, Genevieve and Jeanne, were given to Anne's father Zacharie after her death. Over the years there were several legal battles over the girls and permanent guardianship was given to Zacharie.

    Additonal information:
    After the death of Anne Cloutier, Robert decided to leave the area. He gave Zachary Cloutier temporary guardianship of his two daughters, Genevieve ad Jeanne. Robert rented his land to Julien Perreault, who agreed to allow an arpent of land to return to nature each year, but to take good care of the two cows, the helfer, the ox and the four pigs.

    Land:
    Robert received a plot of land from the Jesuits that consisted of 2 arpents of frontage and a depth of 20 arpents. It was located between Jean Lanqueteau and Jean Poisson.

    Robert lived "on the farm of the Jesuit Fathers, called Notre-Dame de Bon Secours". He was granted a concession of three arpents of frontage by 20 in depth.

    This marriage contract was the first of its kind in Canada. Anne was 10 1/2 years old. A stipulation was put into the contract that stated that Anne would continue to live at home with her parents until she was thirteen years old. The wedding ceremony took place when she was eleven years old and there was a two year wait.

    Notary Jean Guyon drew up the contract between Robert and Anne at the home of Seigneur Griffard. Since Anne was only 10 years old, the couple was to continue living at the home of her parents. The parents did want Anne to be confronted with marital responsibilities too soon.
