She had the ability to make even the simplest activities some of the greatest pleasures for her family such as singing around a campfire, enjoying a picnic at a park, or spending a day at the beach.
Her faith in God and the future brought a sense of peace to others.
Her love will continue to live on in those she leaves behind while they look forward to the day when they will be reunited.
Pat is survived by her loving husband Tom Dooley; six children

    Michael & Alice (McHugh) Reilly
Lived and had their children in Maidstone (Essex Co.) Ontario, Canada. Michael deserted Alice when the children were quite young and went to Devil's Lake, North Dakota and bought land. Alice and the older children moved to Detroit where Annie Flannery (married to Mike Flannery) bought a saloon on Atwater street for her to manage with her children John and Bridget. Her son Michael was raised by some Maidstone neighbors (Morin) and Alice A. was raised by Elizabeth (Lizzie) Quinlan as her own. Annie (Quinlan) O'Connell was like a siser to Mimi (Alice A. Reilly). Mimi was only 12 years old when her mother died and Liz Quinlan was like a mother to her.

How Some Other Man Took the Name of Peter Vermitt
    ____
Leaving a Ten-Year Old Girl with Edward Valliere
    ____
    A Queer Case

About the middle of last month, a woman, accompanied by a girl about ten years old, appeared at the house of Edward Valliere, No. 410 Woodbridge street east, and for the time astonished and pleased that good man by introducing herself as the wife of a cousin to Mr. Valliere, whom that gentleman had not seen in thirty five years.
The name of the cousin was Peter Vermitt, and the woman explained that she and her daughter had come directly to Detroit from their home, north of Lansing, and that Mr. Vermitt would arrive the next day.
Sure enought, Peter did arrive the next day. Mr. Valliere had not seen him for thirty five years, and although he could discover no resemblance in him to the boy Pete, whom he knew so long ago, he gave him a hearty welcome, and for two or three days he and his wife devoted themselves earnestly to the entertainment of the long-lost cousins. Finally Vermitt announced that he wished to take his wife to Toledo for a short visit, and that meanwhile he would leave the ten-year old daughter to amuse herself at Valliere's house, in Detroit. Thinking of nothing wrong, Valliere consented; the two Vermitts went away, leaving the girl here.
She is still in Detroit, and Valliere has not heard a word from and has been unable to gaina trace of the whereabouts of Mr. and Mrs. Vermitt, Mr. Valliere has finally concluded that the man and woman, whoever they are, were not his cousins, and that they have purposely deserted the girl. The deserted child cannot tell where she used to live, except that it was in the country, while Valliere, firmly convinced that the man is not Peter Vermitt, is cadly puzzled to know who he is, that he could so successfully palm himself off as a cousin.

    A TAX-TITLE CASE

A Peculiar Feature Developed in One Just Settled.

Some time ago Edward Valliere, a Frenchman who ownes a small piece of land on the Gilbert farm, received notice from Thomas Wood, who is quite extensively engaged in the tax-title business, that he (Wood) had tax-titles on the lot owned by Valliere and inviting a settlement. Valliere discovered from the records that Wood had titles for the county and State taxes of 1872, 1873, 1874 and 1875. These had cost him about sixty cents a year - a total of about $2.50. When Valliere, considerably alarmed, went to Wood to negotiate for the purchase of the titles from him he asked $50 for them. This was refused by Valliere, who finally offered $15 for them. This sum Valliere says Wood finally agreed to take but refused to record the deeds he had obtained from the State, and on this matter they split and the negotiations were off. Wood continued to hold the tax-titles.
There was nothing at all new about the affair thus far. All tax-title speculators manage to get interest, many times compounded, on their investments, but this case developed a peculiar feature.
A few days ago Vallier was served with what purported to be a true copy of a declaration in ejectment in the case of "Thomas Wood vs. Edward Valliere" duty filed in the Wayne Circuit Court. It was drawn on one of the appropriate blanks, properly filled out - with the exceptions that dates were conspicuously absent - and was apparently regular enough. The "declaration" recited in the ordinary legal verbiage that Valliere was unlawfully withholding possession of premises belonging to Wood to his damage, etc., $1,000.
Valliere then consulted an attorney, and the latter called upon Seth E. Engle, who appeared in this declarations as Wood's attorney. Engle agreed to settle the case for $15 and $1 extra- officer's fees for filing the declaration. This was agreed to and the $16 was paid. Engle then fave the following formal stipulation discontinuing the case. It is in due and approved form:
?i?Circuit Court for the County of Wayne
    Thomas Wood
    vs.
    Edward Valliere
It is stipulated this cause may be and hereby is discontinued without costs, the matter having been settled this March 5, 1885.
    S. E. Engle
    Attorney for plaintiff.
    ?/i?
No such case as "Wood vs. Valliere" was begun in the Wayne Circuit Court. A reporter for THE FREE PRESS closely examined the entry fee book yesterday and found no such case entered. Deputy County Clerk John Marshall also examined the indexes and records and assured THE FREE PRESS representative that no such suit had been begun.
The threatened suit succeeded in producing its effect, the payment of $16. The offense against the laws in none unless embodied in this formal statement on the back of the declaration served on Valliere:

    ?i?To thewithin named defendent:
Take notice, that on filing a declaration in this cause (of which the within is a true copy) as commencement of suit, a rule was entered in the Book of Common Rules, kept by the clerk of said court, in his office, in the City Hall, Detroit, requiring you to appear and plead to said declaration within twenty days after service on you of a copy thereof, and notice of said rule or judgement, etc.
    Yours, etc.,
    S. E. Engle
    Plaintiff Attorney
    ?/i?
This is but on case, but there "is no means of tellin to what extent such a practice may have been used to get money for tax titles by the holders thereof.
"If these facts could be present, in court," said a well-known attorney yesterday, "they would cause a prompt suppression of the practice."?i?

Aged Twins Die Within A Week
Edward Valliere, Who coasted in Mackinaw Boat From Detroit Here in 1846, Is Dead

A telegram from Detroit announces the death of Edward Valliere on the 14th of December. Valliere was the man who paddled his way from Detroit to Portage Lake 50 years ago and was a brother of Augustus Valliere, who died December 7th and who was equally well known here. Edward Valliere was a historic character in Michigan. He was an eccentric man, fearless in the extreme. In the summer of 1849 he started from Detroit in a Mackinaw boat and coasted up the lakes to the present site of Houghton. He had heard that men were becoming rich hunting and trading with the Indians here and he came. Two of his sons still live here.
Only the old settlers will remember the Valliere brothers who were twins. Edward lived here for five years and made several thousand dollars hunting and trading. During that time his brother, Augustus, visited him twice and was highly respected by all who knew him. Mr. Valliere's prowess and daring qualities furnish the data for many interesting tales which are old by the old settlers. The Detroit Evening News, in speaking of the deaths of the brothers, says:
"In 1837, the year Michigan became a state, two brothers came to Detroit from Montreal. They were Augustus and Edward Valliere, ages 19 and 15 respectively. They had lived here ever since till a week ago Saturday, when Augustus died at 441 Clinton avenue. So close had been the attachment of the two that when Edward saw his brother pass away he was greatly affected and had to be assisted to his home across the street, at 448 Clinton."
"So deep was his grief that he took to his bed. In just a week to a day he lay dead in his home, at the age of 79."
"An added touch of interest lies in the fact that the two brothers had married sisters more than 50 years ago. The marriages had not been within four or five years of each others, but each couple lived to celebrate their golden wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Valliere observed the fiftieth anniversary on Jan. 7, 1894."
"Augustus Valliere, after coming to Detroit, was a drayman and at one time proprietor of the Montreal hotel, on Atwater street, opposite the Brush street depot. The tank for the first water works of the city was hauled on a truck driven by him. It was taken to the foot of Orleans street."
"Edward Valliere was also one of the best-known old-time draymen of the city. So successful was he that the became the owner of a farm not far from the city besides having a little in the bank for a rainy day. Seven years ago he retired from active work."
"The following children survive Augustus Valliere: Augustus, Jr., and John B. of Detroit; Mrs. Edward Peltier and Mrs. Lewis Peltier, both of Mt. Clemens. It was while going to visit the two daughters that Augustus was stricken.
"The widow and the following children survive Edward Valliere: George, of South Lake Linden; Henry, of Dollar Bay; Mrs. Joseph Asselin and Mrs. Frank Asselin, of Detroit."
Edward Valliere lived during his stay in the copper country at the Houghton Douglass cave, near the site of Lake Linden; he had a trapper's shanty there.
