    Court:
    Governor Montmagny asked Etienne to be guardian for the minor children of the late Guillaume Hebert and Helene Desportes.

    Occupation:
    A service contract between Etienne and Guillaume Hubou was drawn up by notary Martial Piraube. It can be noted that Etienne received an above average education because of his signature on the contract.

    Residence:
    Etienne was asked by the Jesuits to join them at Saint-Marie-des-Hurons (Midland, Ontario). He returned to Quebec in 1645 but returned the following year. Daughter Marie-Madeleine was baptised there 25 July 1646. It was also noted on 29 August 1646 in the Journal of the Jesuits that Etienne had returned along with several others.

    Legal Matter:
    Governor Montmagny requested Etienne to visit the land of Jacques Maheust, located not too far from Cap-aux-Diamants. He was to verify the damage caused by the pigs. Etienne drew up the following report: "Today Twenty third Day of September gbi forty seven (1647) made a Visit by Estienne Racine To the cleared land of Jacques Maheusat by Order of Monsieur Le Governor Who Reported that he had The Value of two minots of peas damaged lost by the pigs of the farm of the homestead And Signed to be Used as thought Proper."

    Travel:
    Although not formally noted, Etienne traveled to France, probably at the request of Olivier Letardif. On 4 April 1648, Etienne, along with several other Canadian colonists, was witness to the marriage of Zachary Cloutier to Madeleine Esmard at Saint-Barthelemi.

    Land:
    Olivier Letardif ceded 12 arpents of frontage by 126 deep to Etienne. He would pay rents and cens on Saint Martin's Day. Etienne was to build a home during the same year and fence his land as it was cleared. The Riviere aux Chiens divided the land. Etienne also had hunting and fishing rights.

    The Racine home burned at about 10:00 in the morning according to a report made in the Journal of the Jesuits.

    "The year gby (one thousand six hundred) eighty-nine the twenty-fourth day of the month of April died in the communion of our Holy mother Church Estienne Racine resident of this parish about eighty-five years of age, after having received the sacraments of Penitence and Viatica and was the following day buried in our church after his funeral conducted in the presence of Noel, Pierre and Francois Racine his children and other of his friends, who have declared not to know how to write nor sign this document according to the ordinance. signed Morin (Guillaume), priest"

    Distribution of Property:
    Before notary Jacob the estate of Etienne Racine was divided amongst his heirs Noel, Francois, Pierre, Etienne Racine and brothers-in-law Jean Gagnon and Jean Pare. Six arpents and six perches were divided into eight pieces of unequal size. A young boy named Pierre Constant drew lots for the heirs. The house, two barns and stables were submitted to another drawing. Noel and Francois won the house and the other shared the remaining buildings.

    Marriage Contract:
    The contract was drawn up by notary Jean Guitet. Etienne promised to give Marguerite 200 livres. She would receive a dowry of 50 livres. Abraham Martin gave Etienne 100 livres in silver, utensils and clothes valued at 64 livres after the wedding. Having no children, her godparents Nicolas Pivert and Marguerite Lesage gave Marguerite 100 livres in silver, clothing, utensils appraised at 260 livres, all totaling 524 livres. Witnesses were Guillaume Hebert, Olivier Letardif, general clerk and Adrien Duchesne, first surgeon of Quebec.

    Immigration:
    Abraham immigrated to New France with Marguerite during the 1610's. Abraham, Marguerite and her sister, Francoise Langlois, wife of Pierre Desportes were amoung the first to live in Quebec.

    Land:
    Abraham was given land that was first occupied by Montmagny then ceded to surgeon Adrien Duchesne on 5 April 1639.

    "According to a description made by historian Marcel Trudel, the homestead of Abraham would today be located on the plateau which overhangs the coast of Abraham, in a quadrilateral located north of the Grand-Theatre and the Marie-Guyart building."

    Will:
    Notary Duquet drew up the will of Abraham about 9:00 o'clock in the evening. Witnesses were bailiffs Jean LeVasseur, Jean Bourdon de Romainville, master cabinetmaker Jacques de la Roe and son-in-law Jacques Ratte.

    Inventory of property:
    The inventory of property was drawn up by notary Duquet. He stated that Abraham died in his home.

    Legal Matter:
    Abraham's heirs agreed that their mother would continue to own the land, personal property and livestock. Marguerite was to pay her husband's debts and meet certain financial commitments. This agreement was drawn up by notary Duquet.

    Land:
    The heirs of Abraham decided to sell the estimated 32 arpents of land to the Ursuline nuns for 1,200 livres. Notary Duquet drew up the paperwork. Jean Madry represented the nuns in this transaction. The division of the money was: 240 livres to Amador Martin when he reaches his majority; 480 livres to the sellers, except for the share to Nicolas Forget which remained in the hands of Madry, the remaining 480 livres had to be paid on the next Christmas. The heirs stated that they had to sell the property because it remained fallow, the buildings had fallen into ruins and they did not have sufficient funds to continue to culitivate the land.
