    Charles was hired by Guillaume Couillard to clear the land on the Beaupre coast.

    After the death of Guillaume Couillard, his widow, Guillaumette Hebert gave Charles four arpents of frontage on the Saint Lawrence River with 126 arpents in depth. The rights to hunt and fish within the boundaries of this concession were included. He was to pay rents each year of 20 sols and 12 deniers. The land was located just to the east of the Montmorency River.
