    He was born in the parish of Saint-Pierre in Segonzac (arrondissement of Cognac, diocese of Saintes). Segonzac is located south of Jarnac, a small town leading to Cognac towards the west.

    Indentured Service:
    Pierre signed a contract before Royal Notary of La Rochelle, Langlois to become an indentured servant in Canada. Pierre was given an advance of money, passage over and food during the voyage.

    Immigration:
    He arrived on "la Fortune blanche" which encountered many risks, ie., lost its anchors, stranded four leagues from Quebec and lost 5 men who were going by land towards Tadoussace and were taken by the Iroquois.

    He first appeared in Quebec before notary Becquet to sign a servant contract with Pierre Parant.

    "In the presence of Romain Becquet, Royal Notary of New France and undersigned witnesses, were presnet in person Pierre Parent resident living on the Coast of Beauport, who through his good willingness and wishes acknowledged and confessed to owe to the Sieur Pierre Jamin both for passage for the voyage, and for an advance and food provided to Pierre Valliere which he has, on this day delivered to the said Pierre Parent for service as servant following and conforming to the indenture contract of the said Valliere signed in the presence of Langlois, Royal Notary in the city of La Rochelle on the last fourteen May, placed in the hand of the said Parent, for which amount of One Hundred one Livres ten sols, the said Pierre Parent promised and is obliged to pay the said Sieur Jamain or to Sieur Daniel Bialle, merchant, presently in this city acting for the said Sieur Jamin in this business, in animal hides, eight days before the departure of the last ship which leaves this year from the port of this city to return to France, he is obligated by all his furnishings and real estate present and in the future, because this contract made and signed at Quebec in the study of the said notary. On the twelfth Day of October sixteen sixty six, in the presence of Sieur Jean Bellacq, body guard of Monseigneur de Tracy, and Martin apprentice of Sieur de Martigeon living in the said Quebec. Witnesses who have signed these documents with the said Jamin and the notary and the said Parent stating not to know how to write nor sign according to the ordinance." Pierre Jamain

    Marriage Contract:
    Notary Becquet drew up the marriage contract in the home of Anne Gasnier, widow of Jean Bourdon, chaperone of the women sponsored by the king. Pierre gave Anne the customary dowry of 300 livres tournois. Neither spouse could sign the document. Witnesses were Marie Renouard, wife of the late Robert Giffard, founder and seigneur of Beauport, Michelle-Therese Nau, wife of Joseph Giffard, seigneur, Etienne Mesny and Jean-Baptiste Gosset.
