We are getting ready to leave to see the Falls at night. (Have not as yet heard the music.) (Maybe we are getting old & can't hear things.) We bought gas & had water put in rad. $2.30. Gas is .34 to .36 cents a gallon. Of course we took the .36 cents, nothing cheap about us. As yet having spent only 1 day (on the average) here. It has cost us $28.00. Not bad eh! Oh, here comes Roland with two bottles of pop another .20 cents. P.S. He also bought bottle opener .10 cents. But truly we are having a wonderful time.
Up to this time mileage is 60504.8. Have not as yet use any oil. That's a good Chev. for you. Not anything like a Ford - except a Roadster Cont.
Oh Boy we get .06 cents back for our pop bottles Roland bought.
We spent another night in Niagara Falls. Same cabin, $5.00 - Had breakfast in the main house $.90 & went shopping and bought Roland a nice watch chain for $3.00, bought films (6) $1.92, 3 mugs - $9.00 one for Roland, & the two fathers. Went to listen to a Radio Show and end up by being the first couple called. Gave us a certificate & a card to have our picture taken. (Which of course we didn't do) Took more pictures. Bought .50 worth of fruits also paper cups. We crossed the bridge to see the American Falls paid .30 each way. You could almost touch the falls. We also took the (Maid of the Mist) a boat trip to see closer to the falls. Had raincoats & caps on. Because the spray was terrific. Came back to Canada & bought another souvenir. Cork pads to put under glasses so they won't stain our card table. $1.25 Had dinner at the main house - .45 cents. Came back to cabin. Went out to Supper. Ate at the Arcadie Resturant - $1.20. After Supper went to Drugstore & made two phone calls to Detroit. Also bought a bottle of ink - .15 cents. Made a final look around the falls. T ook more pictures of falls & also our cabin. We are leaving in the morning for Toronto.
We plan to take the ferry across to Toronto. But as of ten as things occur, our plan fell thru. We went to be about 10 o'clock, woke up at 5 o'clock. Had breakfast at the Arcadia Resturant - $1.20. Left Niagara Falls at 7:30 arrived at the Toronto Steamer at 8 o'clock, waited for about 1 hour. Finally happen to see one feloow around there and asked him if the Toronto Steamer really left at 10;05 Detroit time. We're told we had to have a reservation, two weeks ahead of time. Left at 9 o'clock for Toronto. Bought radiator sealer $.35. Water was leaking. Reached Toronto 10:35. Visited Exposition. Spend $2.35 to park & our fare around. Visited for two hours, wanted to see more but the crowd was large. Also was raining. Had dinner there and then started on our way 1 o'clock. Arrived Port Hope 2:45. Bought gas $3.49, reached Kingston 6 o'clock. Rented cabin outskirts of Kingston, $4.00. Eat dinner at the "Golden Slipper". A resturant around the cabon, $1.85. Left at 4 o'clock a.m. Weather was chilly. First time in may life that we had the radiator in the car on during the month of August. Drove for one hour. Had breakfast in Brockville, .75 cents. Left at 5:30 to start on our way to Montreal. Stopped for gas at Morrisburg $3.30. Reached canal 8 o'clock - took 14 minutes to cross. Also watched gate or rather bridge swing open. At. 8:40 we reached Montreal. From the outskirts we could see the steeple of St. Joseph. The city is really queer looking (pardon the expression) with all the circular stairs. We really surprised Maurice's ?i?(Maurice Lavallee)?/i? mother.(?i?Marie Anna Lirette Lavallee)?/i? She was talking to the mailman when we arrived. Grandfather & grandmother ?i?(Olivier Lirette & Anna Lavallee Lirette)?/i? were away. We seen them that night. We had supper over Roland's Aunt. We also visited Uncle Joe (?i?Joseph Lemmelin)?/i? & Aunt Jan ?i?(Jeanne Lemmelin Lavallee)?/i?. We slept at Maurices place. Went to bed about 11 o'clock our time. Was up 8 o'clock, went to visit Roland's Grandmother ?i?(Delina Heroux Lemmelin)?/i? who arrived that morning from Detroit. In the afternoon visited Aunt Morrow.?i? (Meletime Cholette Moreau)?/i? Had dinner there. Bought gas & oil, $2.69 gas, .45 oil. First time oil was put in. Left at 3 o'clock. Had supper at home. At night time we went out to see St. Joseph's Shrine & also Mount Royal. But the weather was foggy & misted. Visited the museum. Also a danceland & small cafe where I had a new kind of drink to me. Went to the Tic Tac curb service & then came home. Went to bed 12 o'clock Detroit time. Woke up at 8:30. Had breakfast. Then went shopping with Maurice's mother. Visited Eaton's & just about every store. Bought jewelry & clothes,16 for napkin holder, $3.10 for Mother's dress, $3.89 for tablecloth (Roland's mother), $3.22 for earrings (Jean) ?i?(Jeanne Lirette?/i?), $3.00 for pin (Claire) ?i?(Claire Raymond)?/i?. Came home around 3 o'clock, put things away, sleep for 2 hours. Eat supper. Went to the Mount Royal. Was a beautiful sight. Could see for miles all around. On the way down we took a buggy as far as the car was parked. (The man wanted us to pay him $3.00 but he finally got $1.00 which wasn't even worth that). Left there & went & seen the Royal Hotel. A very lovely hotel & also prices. Reminds me somewhat of the Book-Cadillac in Detroit. Stop for a drink at the New Carlotn Hotel. A nice place to spend a few hours, a four piece orchestra & the singer was very excellent, $1.90. Also visite another cafe. Oh, during the night we had a flat. The same tire we had the other flat. Had the flat fixed. Today, Saturday, Aug. 30, Roland had one pair of pants pressed, washed four pairs of Roland's stockings. Stockings are expensive to buy. We are planning to go out tonight. I don't know where. But I think we will go dancing. Bought #3.15 gas. Went dancing wiht Irene & Maurice to the Chateau Ste. Rose. A beautiful place. A three piece orchestra. The piano player has an organ on the piano. There is a name for it but I can' t think of it. Had a wonderful evening. Then we eat at Miss Montreal. Got home at 2 o'clock. Went to 8:30 mass. Had breakfast then left at 9:30 our time for Quebec. Took us 3 hours 15 minutes. Really traveled. There is just three of us. Maurice, Florence & Roland. Rented a cabin 2 bedrooms $8.00. Cabin was rented 7 miles from town of Quebec. Had dinner at a small cafe in Quebec. Visited the town. Such narrow streets. I bet if Chuck?i? (Charles Graham)?/i? tried to pass with his Ford, the streetcar would have to take the river route. That's how narrow it is. The hills in town are really high. You don't know if you are going a one way until you reach the bottom. What a surprise. Then we started on our way to Ste. Anne. I thought the church was located on top of a hill but its on level ground. It's a beautiful church. Roland took some pictures inside. Hope they turn out all right. We left and came back to our cabin & dressed up & went out for Supper at a Hotel close by. Had a good meal. This meal surprised me as Maurice & Roland didn't order double of everything as the usually did. Gas $3.70. Came back to the cabin. Talked about one hour & then went to sleep. Woke up at 7:30, washed & tried to look pretty. But we were caught. After all there has to be some monkeys in this world. Might as well be us three. Had breakfast about 1 mile from the cabin. Then started on our way back to Montreal. (Had motor trouble, also a flat on the way up. Same tire as before.) Arrived Montreal at 3 o'clock. Had dinner. Came home. Roland looked at his motor. (Trouble) Eat Supper. Then the three of us went out & seen more of the town of Montreal. Came home 11 o'clock, went to bed. Roland got up early so he could see Roger at the garage & ask how much it would cost to fix the trouble. Came back and told us would amount to $50.00. But Roger & Roland would try to fix it that night. But it rained all day Tuesday. Was too damp to work that night. Roland was to go back to the garage next morning & work there. The cost intends to run $25.00. Must be a little Jew in Roland. Stayed home & had Mrs. Lavallee play piano. A wonderful way to spend an evening. Rosemary?i? (Rosemary Lavallee) ?/i?also played. It was a scream to see Maurice try to play & also sing. What a man. One of Roland's cousin, Maurice C. ?i?(Maurice Caron)?/i?, came over. A nice looking young man. Had his own truck. Gave us $2.00 for a wedding gift. Very nice of him. This morning (Wednesday) Roland got up at 7:15 to have his car fixed. Suppose to come back this afternoon with it fixed (I hope). We are suppose to leave right after Supper for home. Roland came back from the Garage at 12:30. Everything was just fixed to be ale to get home. He washed & shaved & then we left to say goodbye to his Grandmother Lemmelin. We also saw his Aunt Jan & his Uncle & Aunt (Twine). ?i?(Damse Thouin & Zephirina Heroux Thouin)?/i? Gas $1.79. We went back to have supper with Lirette's & Lavallee's and finally left at 7:15 their time for Detroit. We arrived Kingston 10:30. Rented cabin $5.00. A very nice cabin. Woke up at 6:30. Left 7 o'clock. Had breakfast in Kingston. Stopped for gas & oil $4.07. Now we are on our way to Toronto. Reached toronto 11:40am, our time. Left 12:15. Bought gas $3.30. Had dinner in.....
